We got a 50oz. (32 Load) bottle of Ajax 2X Ultra Free & Clear for top loaders given to us.
Our machine is a Maytag Neptune Front Loader and uses HE Detergents.
Is there a recipe or way to dilute this to use in our front loader? Or, is the whole substance of it different for front loaders?
Taylor's Answer:
Thanks for your question Ric. You've basically asked a question I get asked a lot, which is whether you can use a non-HE detergent in an HE machine.
The answer is that you do so at your own risk. Yes, it could be alright if you just use less, but the chance you run is that too many suds will develop and cause problems in the machine.
I've written an article about high efficiency laundry supplies here, which you should find helpful in explaining the differences between this type of detergent and those used in top-loaders.
Ajax makes an HE version of its detergents now, so if I were you, and because this brand is relatively inexpensive, I would just buy an HE version instead of risking it.
Then, do a good deed and donate the bottle to someone else who is in need. Who doesn't need some detergent? A charity or pet shelter would be very grateful to receive it, it would be put to good use, without you worrying about harming an expensive appliance in your home.

allergic reaction even to free and clear version by: Sherry
I have used hypoallergenic or free and clear for as long as I have been able to find them. In the past, before I could purchase this type of detergent and my children were young, I would wash my cloths separately and then rinse them twice.
I have allergic reactions to the Ajax Free & Clear and to Ajax original. Hives, itching, swelling of eyes and sinuses if used on my bedding.
Plus I live in a state with hard water and it does not clean well. Not in my old top loader or in my front door loader.
Do not recommend for people who seem to be sensitive to a lot of different things.
