Xtra Laundry Detergent Caused Bad Allergic Reaction

use this Pin it button to save to Pinterest

Several readers have written in to tell about how Xtra laundry detergent has caused them to have allergic reactions.

If you're not very familiar with Xtra detergent, it is a low cost brand, found often at a deep discount, which is known for its variety of scents.

You can find out more about Xtra in my guide here.

Xtra laundry detergent reviews

Since Xtra markets itself to focus on its scents, and does not even have an unscented variety available, it's really not that surprising that some people have found they're allergic to it, since scent is one of the main causes of allergic reactions in laundry detergents (along with dyes).

Here's one such story from a reader, Matty, and then my response, which provides more resources about how to deal with these laundry detergent allergies.

Matty says:

This stuff is toxic! I've itched for about a month.

I've rewashed everything but there is enough residue in my clothes to still make me itch. It's getting better but when I switched I would wake up in the middle of the night because I was so itchy.

My bumps looks very similar to the picture on your website here.

I am also very allergic to Tide, maybe there is a common ingredient in the two.

Taylor says:

Thanks for sharing your experience with me Matty, although I'm sorry it wasn't at all pleasant.

As you mentioned, you're not the first person to tell me you've had an allergic reaction to this detergent. You can see more pictures of laundry detergent allergies here from readers who've experienced these reactions not to just this brand, but many brands and types of laundry supplies.

Do you think you might be suffering from a detergent allergy? Pictures to help you tell.

Allergic Reaction To This Detergent

by Joy

Xtra laundry detergent allergic reaction stories and experiences {on Stain Removal 101}use this Pin it button to save to Pinterest

My neighbor gave me a bottle of this detergent because her husband reacted to it with skin irritation.

Since my family is not susceptible to allergies or skin issues I used it on all my sheets.

I had throat and nose irritation the whole week and then figured it out that it was the detergent as I would feel fine later when I was out of the condo. Then when I was folding laundry later in the day the symptoms started all over again.

Hardly slept all week as these symptoms made it difficult and hard to enjoy my vacation time.

I have never reacted like that to a detergent as I am not particularly sensitive.

Itching If I Even Touch Something Washed With This

by Brenda Town
(Tahlequah Ok USA)

Suffered several weeks with what I thought were bug bites, but they would get worse at the strangest times.

I was going to make an appointment with my doctor because the itching was unbearable.

Finally figured out its Xtra Laundry Detergent- Tropical Passion scent.

Once I rewashed my clothes in Borax, I stopped itching.

I start itching again if I even touch something watched with Xtra Laundry Detergent.

Was relieved to see I wasn’t the only one with that bad of reaction.

Xtra ScentSations Caused Whole Family To Have An Allergic Reaction

by Rachel
(Oklahoma)

Rachel says:

After using this laundry detergent for a week my husband and I have broken out in itchy red bumps all over our torsos and my daughter has broken out with zits all over her torso just like one of the other reviewers had.

(Taylor's note, she's referring to this review here.)

We have ruled out bugs, food, pet, or other allergies. None of us have any history of other allergies, but we can't use this detergent. :-(

Taylor says:

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with this detergent.

Reaction to this detergent
by: Anonymous

OMG, I can't believe I'm not the only one! I really thought I was imagining it. Last Dec. 2013, I mistakenly told my hubby to pick up some Extra detergent - I was thinking of Arm & Hammer but said Extra. After wearing a few loads I developed an incredibly itchy, red welts rash. It is now November 2014 and despite a couple of visits to the Dr. and also to a dermatologist I CANNOT GET RID OF THIS RASH!!!!

Huge Mistake
by: Trish

I bought this cheap detergent trying to save a buck. Well huge mistake. My son who is 13 had a horrible reaction. He has the huge pimple like rash all over everywhere where his clothes touches. He went to the Dr. and was told to take Benedryl and use hydrocortisone cream. Feel like a horrible mom. I will stick with Arm&Hammer.

Severe itching
by: Anonymous

Severe itching all thru the night. This detergent is total garbage and should be taken off the market.

Worst ever
by: Anonymous

I brought this detergent and am now itching all over with m&m sized bumps on all areas. This is the worst detergent ever. Please don't ever buy this.

it's like it burns our skin
by: Anonymous

My whole family got a terrible itching and various hive breakouts from this detergent. My oldest son got a drop of this on his hand while doing laundry and got a huge hive pimple like welt almost immediately. My daughter tested it in her hand to see if it was the detergent and she too got the huge hive pimple like welt. It's like it burns our skin. I think though that it is the scent, as we have used Xtra for a long time. My youngest broke out in the worst rash all over his torso and arms. So bad it looks lIke he is covered in acne. Have all of us on Benadryl and hydrocortisone creams and went back to Purex last night, rewashing clothes like crazy. Kids put on rewashed clothing with sigh of relief as it doesn't itch.

should be taken off the shelves!
by: Terria

Being frugal caused my entire family of four to have a terrible allergic reaction to this detergent. I washed a couple of loads of laundry on Sunday (12/13/15), it's now the following Saturday (12/19/15) and we all are itching like crazy. Our reaction was so bad this evening that I woke up in the middle of the night to drive to the pharmacy to buy the biggest bottle of Benadryl possible. I am covered with pimple like bumps from head to toe and my left eye has been swollen and irritated for the past week. I thought it may have been bed bugs or a scabies outbreak, but that was ruled out. We only breakout instantly after showering and coming in contact with towels, clothes and linen. Xtra should be taken off the shelves!

Xtra Tropical Passion Laundry Detergent - like it has itching powder in it
by: Anonymous

I swear someone must have decided to put itching powder in this detergent. I have never in my life had an allergic reaction to anything until I decided to buy Xtra laundry detergent. For the past two days I've had itchy red welts all over my body. They come and go, and have finally spread to my extremities. Benadryl and coconut oil help a little but at times the itching is nearly insufferable. 0/10 Worst laundry detergent ever.

terrible reaction
by: Anonymous

I also had a terrible reaction to this detergent. I washed a cotton bra in it and in the span of about 5 hours I was burned and had to go to the emergency room. My husband was burned in his groin after wearing cotton underwear. Beware of this detergent!!!

Break Out
by: Anonymous

Readers, I broke out in hives one night. I thought little of it since they were tiny and only on my arms. I went to bed and woke up at 4 and noticed they spread to my stomach. When I got up for work at 5:30 it had slowly gone away. I changed clothes and about an hour later, the hives were gone. The next night, I put on work out clothes. When I got home, I noticed a couple bumps on my ankles. Within ten minutes, I had severe hives all over my back, arms, legs, ankles, stomach and my bottom. I could see them spreading. They began blending together and my skin was bright red with at least 100 tiny hives. I went to the ER and they gave me Benedryl while I waited. The hives went away within hours so I checked out. When I got up the next morning, hives were back again. I called in sick and my doctor got me in. However, I changed clothes and the hives left. Later on, I changed into pjs for bed and I had another severe outbreak. I started to realize the clothes I had outbreaks from were all the same load of laundry. We also washed our bed stuff in it which explains getting worse at night and mornings. I concluded it was the detergent. The ER said they could not believe how bad I looked. This was not a simple allergic reaction so please be careful.

Terrible ongoing rash
by: Anonymous

It's my own fault I've had the rashes on my face and one of wrists for as long as I have (about 6 months!!). I chalked it up to a number of things, predominately winter. I live in Canada where it's not unusual to have dry and itchy skin during the winter. However, even on milder days, I'd still itch. So then I self diagnosed myself has allergic to milk (silly me) until I happened upon this article and the light bulb FINALLY went off. I had a more intense reaction that my finance whereby I actually had spots of painful rashes on my wrist and face and he just itched a bit everytime he got into bed. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't make the connection sooner, but we no longer use Xtra and I make our own laundry detergent now. I noticed an incredible difference after only one night sleeping in our sheets that weren't washed in Xtra. That stuff is cheap, toxic and shouldn't exist.

Broke me out too
by: Anonymous

I just got a bottle of Xtra the yellow container Island Breeze and after washing my clothes and wearing them I started breaking out with a rash and hives and itching really bad all over my body. I went to urgent care today due to the rash and itching non stop. I will say this it is not worth trying to to be cheap and save money on buying this laundry soap. I am not a person who has ever been allergic to anything until now. I don't know what they use in this laundry soap but I have never had a problem like this with any other laundry soap in my life.

Runny nose
by: Anonymous

Over the last 9 years our daughter had suffered from runny nose. We changed her diet thinking it was a food related allergy. After hundreds of dollar, Dr. visits and allergies test, her runny nose stopped. After completing our "RCA", it was determined that the only thing we changed was our laundry detergent! YES, my husband does all the laundry in our home, so he uses whatever he gets from his dad. Over the last 10 years we used Xtra without knowing how toxic it was for our girl. She is now runny nose free, we replaced all her sheets and got new clothes for her. We love our new detergent choice!

All over itch
by: James Blauw

I recently opened a bottle of Extra Sensations laundry detergent and since then I have been itching all over, all the time. It feels like I rolled in pink insulation.

Do not waste your money on trying to save a dollar
by: Sharon Sullivan

I just made a trip to the urgent care today. I have never had any allergy reaction to any laundry soap until now. I have broken out with rashes and have been itching like crazy non stop all over from head to toes. Whatever ingredient they're using should be discontinued. I will never buy Xtra again or use it ever again.

Xtra detergent reaction
by: Lori

I have been telling my husband for years that this stuff is hideous garbage. He stopped using it for awhile but succumbed to the price attraction of it again last week. It used to just give me a headache and make me stuffed up. Today, however, after just taking his clothes out of the dryer and placing them on the bed, my whole body started to have a prickly heat itch from head to toe, my eyes were stinging and burning and my heart started pounding to an extent that it was really scary. Breathing became difficult. One dose of Benadryl and getting out of the house for some fresh air got the heart under control and helped with the stuffed up nose. Am on the third dose and still have the prickly itching, mostly limited to my arms and legs now, but also comes and goes on my face and head. Mind you I didn't even wear the clothes, I just smelled them and touched them briefly. I use a decent laundry detergent (ECOS), and assuredly he will now too. If he does otherwise it will be just as hazardous to his health as it is to mine ;) This bargain basement trash should be taken off the market before it kills someone. The smell is atrocious and it doesn't even get clothes clean. I can see liking a good deal, but people, this is ridiculous. It isn't a good deal if it almost kills you, makes you smell bad and doesn't get your clothes clean. YUCK!!!!!!

finally figured it out
by: Slybele

I've finally figured out that it must be the Xtra laundry detergent that I'm allergic to. I have what seem to be bites and hives mainly around my waist. My son has had no symptoms and that's the only change I've made in the past couple of weeks. I'm also allergic to Tide laundry detergent. I've not used Tide in years. Thanks for this site, very helpful!

I have hives right now!!!!
by: Anonymous

I washed my clothes 2 days ago with the blue bottle of Xtra. Now I have hives. I have never had them before so I looked on Google the pictures prove its hives. I have them so bad that I called out of work to treat this with Benadryl. I want to pull my damn hair out!!!!!

Sent husband to doctor
by: Anonymous

I had bought Xtra laundry detergent, the green bottle. I washed all my clothes and bedding. My husband was up all night scratching. He had gone to the bathroom and noticed he had this bad rash that's all red and bumpy all over his body. It's intolerable. He tried Benadryl, hydrocortisone, etc., nothing is working. It's been a couple days, its just getting worse! Off to see the doctor. I washed all my clothes and bedding with regular water twice to make sure it's out of my clothes and had to buy detergent for sensitive skin. Will Never Ever buy this product again! They should have warning labels on it.

Never again
by: Connie

I purchased the extra because I had digital coupons and thought I would save some money. Little did I know at the time that I would be changing my meds, body soaps and we finally narrowed it down to the xtra detergents after spending co pay after co pay at the doctors office and plus the scripts. This has gone on for a month with waking in the night miserable from itching. Glad it's come to an end and I will never use this product again.

Hives
by: Sandy

Just divorced, thought I'd save a buck. Washed my sheets etc. thank god I wore a large tee shirt to bed. I saved my torso from hives, but the rest of me was bad. 3 months of medication before it went away. Now I am sensitive to certain toilet papers.

Months! I thought it was a yeast infection!
by: Anonymous

Activated by heat. That is how I figured it out!

I swear and work outside all summer. I thought I had a yeast infection. Prickly heated itch.

But no other signs.

Months and months this went on, especially while sleeping. But it was really located to my arm pits or crotch...where you heat the most. Honestly I thought I was dying. I thought it was bug bites. I thought it was my bug spray but never the detergent.

I researched tons of women with the same condition, undiagnosed, doctors confused.

So I suffered, silently, figuring it was my age, the heat, I even had Lyme so I blamed that.

Then we go on vacation. I am swimming most of the time in my hand washed suits. Then we do laundry and buy Tide at the laundromat...no itch!

I got home, then it started again. But still I never imagined it was soap!

It would burn me like fire.

So oddly enough it donned on me and I tried All Free. And finally I had relief.

I still did not know which soap it was I was using because I married one into another to use the spouted Xtra bottle.

So I bought it again...Instant reaction!

Now my poor 12 yr old daughter came to me about an embarrassing itch in her crotch area...worried she had bugs! Poor baby is using the same soap!

I was happy to inform her not to worry...its just that cheap crap that we we will never buy again.

But I would like to know what this toxin is. Because my two sensitive kids and their dad with breathing issues and skin issues have no problem with it. But my daughter and I who are strong like steel cans cannot have anything washed in this stuff near our skin!

just used a little
by: Jerry

I just used a half of cupful and days later I broke into a rash and 10 days later still trying to get rid of it!

very uncomfortable
by: Anonymous

I bought the detergent Xtra with oxyclean, the scent is Mountain Rain. I've broken out in little blister like rash. So I'm not using it again!! I'm having to rewash everything in my house starting with sheets and comforter so I can finally get some sleep. The itching is as bad as the measles or poison ivy.Very uncomfortable

I bought some of this because it was on Sale. MISTAKE
by: karl

I have same symptoms as everyone else and I have never had a reaction to any kind of lotions, soaps or detergents before.

I can't seem to get it out of my clothes. I have washed my dress shirts 2 and 3 times with ALL FREE and CLEAR, but a few of my clothes (months later) still make be break out in a rash.

I have had to throw out 2 dress shirts because it just won't come out and every time I wear them I develop a rash within 1 or 2 hours. At least now I know what caused it.

Run far away from this detergent
by: Anonymous

I recently purchased the Xtra detergent in the yellow bottle. Island Breeze. I broke out in the worse itchy rash ever. At first, I thought it was my shower stuff. But I began to notice that I had stopped using the preconceived culprit only to still suffer from the burning and itching. That's when I washed my shirt in a different detergent and got some not total relief. I still have marks all over my chest and some on sides. It looks horrible. Please wash a glove or sock or something to test before you buy. There must have been a formula change in these detergents bc I could tolerate them before. Bad mistake?

Has lead to having Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)!
by: Ken

It's been over 6 months that I've been fighting horrible, itchy rashes that started around my torso. I even went to the emergency room. They prescribed a high dose steroid (6 days). Helped at first but then itchy rashes came back worse. Then my primary care doc gave me a different high dose steroid (another 6 days). Same results. Got referred to a dermatologist who gave me an even more potent (expensive, quality) steroid. That made me extremely hyper - my heart racing. I went into AFib after that. I'm 56 yrs old and never had heart problems. Now I've been cardioverted (shocked) back into rhythm twice and they're considering ablation. Docs have also prescribe Zyrtec and/or Atarax. Not good with AFib (especially because I'm also on Multaq to keep my heart in rhythm). Anti-histamines will put me back in AFib. Dermatologist did patch test - I'm allergic to FORMALDEHYDE. Trying to figure what I use that has formaldehyde. I'm betting it's in the scent of Xtra! What a mess! My life is now in serious danger!!! Will start using Arm & Hammer. Wife is now washing all my clothes in plain water until then.

Itchy pimply rash! Xtra= awful
by: Sarah

My dad gave me a big container of Xtra at a bargain of a price. My 11 year old and I had felt itchy as soon as we put our clothes on after showering but never made a connection. We now have been using this detergent about 1 1/2- 2 months. Rash began about 3-4 weeks into using it ( I think). My poor daughter is worse off than myself with rash near all heat sensitive areas. I know this detergent Hs to be the cause of this horrible rash after reading other reviews especially the one that mentioned it is activated by heat. I have only used a little over 1/2 of the container but it is getting trashed. Horrible!!!

Xtra allergic reaction
by: Anonymous

Today I’m much better, although still suffering. I pretty much suffered since Thursday 7/19/18 with severe intense itching. Since I already have multiple auto-immune diseases that’s what I accounted face rash, and scalp itching (lupus&RA, psoriasis). Earlier Saturday 7/21/18 I’d taken Benadryl, but noticed when I woke up the severe itching was bad and or worse.....yesterday I spent all day rewashing with gain as to I’ve done well for years with liquid gain, but years back had problems with tide powder.

Itchy skin
by: Anonymous

A few months ago I bought Xtra laundry detergent. It was on sale and not long after I started itching all over. I have done everything to figure out why am I itching. Just came from out of town and when I returned home I changed clothes and noticed that the itching has started again. So I will go to the store and buy a sensitive skin detergent and I have a strong feeling that this will remedy the problem. We will see.

Xtra is no good
by: Kathleen Long

We were given is Xtra. Its in a red carton. I already have edema on my legs and feet. This Xtra causes my clothes to get this residue on them that goes on to my skin causing it to break out from where my clothes have touched my skin. It also cause my skin to be slippery from the residue. Everything i touch seems to have this slippery residue on it. Bed clothes and everything. It causes a little of sweating which causes me to get cold. Anytime except winter for an allergic reaction to a detergent.

Xtra washing powders
by: Lisa Plunkett

I washed my clothes one time and have broke out with pimple like bumps and i feel like I have bed bugs inching like crazy my is trying to heal up but I have scar's from the bumps that was there. I will never ever use this again.

Xtra Itchy
by: Tasha

I have noticed that every time I wash my clothes with the Xtra laundry detergent I break out in hives. At first I thought my allergic reactions came from being around strawberries or shellfish but around this time I also washed my clothes. It starts out as a little rash and just spreads throughout the whole body. I wake up in the middle of the night from itching so bad. I only brought the detergent because it was cost worthy but now I see I have to buy the Gain laundry detergent even if it costs a lot because Gain doesn't cause rashes. It was very scary. Now I know I can no longer use Xtra no matter how much it costs.

HIVES
by: Valentine

My husband bought Xtra and I've been breaking out in hives since I started using it. They've gotten worse and worse and have spread all over my body. I kept wondering if it could be caused by something else but there's been no change in my diet or routine. After seeing the picture someone posted here of her hives, now I know.

OMG the hives!!!
by: Margie Caporusso

Went to Urgent Care due to extreme itching and hives popping out all over. On Prednisone and an antihistamine.
I have the worst case of hives. All over me, even on my scalp. The itching is unbearable and I want to rip my hair out. Does anyone know if there is a class action law suit?

Severe Itch
by: Anonymous

I have always used a different laundry detergent. I bought XTRA PLUS OXY CLEAN at a store because the they didn't have my usual brand. I used this for more than a month and didn't put it together that this was causing the itch. It was awful! I stopped using it and the itch went away completely!

Never Again And Know It
by: Anonymous

My husband bought Xtra, I guess looking at the price. I work out of the home, he is retired and does the laundry, even the bed clothes in it. I became itchy side arms, lower back, hips and thighs front and back. I couldn't figure out the culprit. I removed Xtra from my home. I had a terrible rash for 2 solid weeks. Thank goodness this madness is over.

I thought it was bed bugs!!!
by: Anonymous

It's strange cuz I'm only breaking out on my right arm and hand? Has anyone else experienced this to? They feel like bug bites and they aren't like a rash, it's like random welts that I scratched the hell out of, now they're probably infected ...but no one else in my house is experiencing this so I don't know what's happening. I figured if its laundry soap it should be all over right? The 3 little welts on my fingers look like blisters? Idk.

HIVES
by: Anonymous

I used the purple XTRA and I noticed I was breaking out in hives shortly after I put some clothes on I had just washed...all over my arms and legs and even on my scalp and face (probably from putting my shirt on). It was bad enough it looked like someone punched me in the eye that’s how swollen I was. Went to urgent care and they gave me a few shots of Benadryl and within a few weeks It was cleared up.
NEVER AGAIN with XTRA Laundry detergent! I’ll spend the few extra dollars to avoid breaking out and save a trip to the urgent care!

Same
by: Anonymous

My kids and myself have been itching for days now. It could only be the detergent. Same kind here. Only used it cause it was in the house. Worst mistake I ever made. Itching itching.

Worst detergent!
by: Anonymous

Omg, I have had the worst rash for the last month, tried everything, benydryl pills, cream, prescription cream from doctor. My mother just told me about this, and I have been using this detergent too. I went to doctor thinking I had scabies or bed bugs, spraying my room, the scabs and itching drove me mad, kept me up every night, I even took a shower in dog's anti fungal soap to stop the itching. Come to find out, this is what caused it!! This crap needs to be removed from stores!! I am actually going to be contacting the company too!!

Think I've found the culprit!
by: Anonymous

I have eczema but I've never really had a problem with fragrances up until this. I use Xtra all the time to wash my tights. For the last year I've been taking allergy meds because my hands and feet itch like crazy. I had a pretty severe allergy flare up that lasted about a week. I'd never had these hay fever like symptoms before, but thought it would pass on its own. One morning I woke up and my whole face was swollen. I went to urgent care and they prescribed me loratadine. My mom mentioned people saying this and Gain gave them allergic reactions and now things are starting to make sense. I never got the eczema rash just that itch that won't be soothed. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and my legs would be itching like crazy. I'll quit using it now and switch to unscented detergents. The only other thing that causes me this kind of reaction are deodorant soaps like zest or lever 2000.

Skin rash
by: Roger

How long does the skin rash last after I stop using Xtra soap?

Trying to save money cost me and my so. sleepless nights
by: Jojo

My typical laundry detergent is Arm and Hammer, but in this one day I decided I didn’t wanna spend $12 when I could get a lot more of the Xtra brand for $8. So first I washed my son's clothes with it and for a few days he kept saying he itched. I had seen a tiktok and assumed he may have worms. So I bought the worm medicine but nothing happened. A few days later I washed my clothes and immediately I began to itch so bad. My whole body was in weeps and I immediately hopped in the shower for the 2nd time that night and let the hottest water I could get run down my body. So when I finally felt better I got out the shower, dried myself off with the towel I had previously washed with xtra and 10 minutes later I was itching again. I had to take a double dose of Benadryl and knock myself out to deal with the pain. It took me two days to figure it out because I assumed it was my new perfume.

Changed Scent and darker color from green bottle
by: Anonymous

Tried the new version in blue bottle of Mountain Rain, smelled a little different and color was deeper blue. The worst part, I'm all broke out from it. Used the green bottle for 8 years, never a problem. Chalk another product up to the manufacturer saving pennies and making the product worse. So SAD.

Itching
by: Anonymous

I have 13 dogs and they are all itching and scratching like mad even though I sometimes rinse twice. They act like they have mange. I'm trying to find the common denominator thinking maybe it's the food. I have two dogs that live outside. They are not itching and scratching, well the Beagle is but the other dog is not. They all eat the same food but the common denominator is the food or the laundry detergent and I'm betting it's the laundry detergent. I've got bumps and itching several times on my own clothes. I rinse twice. I think it's time to stop using this crud. You end up using more anyway. Going to look for a holistic brand although it's going to cost more, but it's going to save a lot of itching and scratching.

Do NOT use Xtra
by: Locan

I started breaking out on my face. I finally figured out what the cause was. I have also been coughing more at night. Now I have to spend more money and time rewashing everything, including sheets, towels, pillowcases, clothes. And probably a trip to the dermatologist. Something is very dangerous about this stuff. Buyer beware.

itching in my sleep
by: Andrea

I recently bought this brand of detergent and started itching in my sleep. It was so unbearable until it kept me up most of the night. I started revisiting things I had eaten or any new lotion I may have bought that could have contributed to the itching. It came to me later the detergent I had bought had to be the cause. This was the first time I bought this brand and hadn’t had any allergic reactions prior. The back of my neck, both sides of my face, and my arms would itch on and off mostly at night when I’m in bed. I would only turn red on my arms but without bumps, just crazy itching.

I think I am allergic
by: Anonymous

I have been experiencing an extremely itchy skin reaction ever since I changed my detergent to this Xtra three weeks ago.

I have been to doctors appointment, allergist and even dermatologist. I thought this was scabies or bed bugs. But the truth is that every time my irritated and itchy rash comes back I find my self using bed sheets and clothes washed with this detergent.

I will start washing all my clothes now with free and clear detergent!

Does anyone know how long can this irritated skin last to go away?

I’m going to die of itch
by: Nicolette Knapp

I normally don’t buy cheap soap but it smelled good and I wanted to try something different. Within a few days I developed an itch all over my body. My head, face, neck, back, feet, stomach, legs, toes, even the inside of my ears!! I almost wrecked my car because my feet were itching so bad and I was scratching and couldn’t stop scratching my foot fast enough to get to the brake!! This stuff is dangerous!! I have been miserable for 3 weeks!! I doubled then tripled then quadrupled washing everything and it finally got a little better but I’m still itching!!

I am not allergic to anything in this world except this SOAP!!! So it took me by surprise when I started itching. I’ll stick with Tide. Excuse me while I go itch myself to sleep.

Terribly Itchy
by: Samara Pasternak

I’m a teenager and I do my own laundry and my family happened to have bought Xtra and we were out of our other kind. I washed my bedding, my clothes, everything with it. I was extremely itchy that I had red bumps all over my body which soon became painful. I thought it was my shampoo and conditioner but soon realized it was the detergent. I have stopped using it but I fear that when we run out of our normal detergent that I will need to use it again to get my things washed.

The worst
by: Anonymous

My child and I both broke out in hives and my child's neck swole up from this soap. It's the absolute worst.

made me miserable

This stuff is toxic. Roommate bought some for the house and I broke out in itchy splotchy rash all over my body. My face and lips swelled so badly I had to see a doctor. Rewashed all my clothes in hot water and there was still enough residue to cause a reaction. Very scary experience, especially with the facial swelling.
