Below is a video where a carpet cleaning professional gives some tips for removing lipstick stain from carpet.
She only shows you the first couple of steps though, including the blotting techniques you want to start with.
I guess that is because she has a vested interest in getting you to call a professional, like her, to tackle your carpet lipstick stain.
I like the techniques she shows in the video, however, because lipstick is a greasy waxy type of stain.
In the video she explains that she tries to work with only a small area of the stain at a time because she does not want it to spread.
I can understand how a lipstick stain could spread easily on a carpet if you're not careful, because lipstick stays moist and waxy even after long periods of time.
Therefore, she shows you in the video how to blot at the stain, first with a dry white towel, and then after there is no more color transfer from the dry towel try a wet towel.
She also shows you in the video how the lipstick stain was only on the top third of the carpet fibers, which I think is a great visual demonstration of why you don't want to scrub on your carpet.
If you scrub that lipstick stain will just get ground further down into the carpet fibers making it even more difficult to remove.
