Mildew In Bathroom - How To Clean And Remove Mildew Stains

The video below demonstrates a great technique for cleaning and removing mildew in a bathroom.

It provides really simple instructions, with tools commonly found around the house, for this common problem in homes.

You will need the following equipment:

  • Rubber gloves

  • Spray bottle

  • Chlorine bleach

  • Water

  • Scrub brush and an old toothbrush or grout brush for grout stains

  • Dry cloth or towel
To remove the mildew and mold in your bathroom, and the stains it can leave behind, you will manually remove it with the scrub brushes and also kill it with the chlorine bleach solution.

The video suggests using 1 part chlorine bleach to 15 parts water. This is quite similar to my homemade mildew cleaner recipe, although mine has a larger ratio of bleach.

Spray the bleach solution onto the mildew and let it sit for at least five minutes, which is the time necessary for the bleach to kill the mildew spores.

Then, physically remove the mildew and mold from your bathroom surfaces with the scrub brushes.

The video also mentions washing your shower curtain, which is a great idea if you have mold or mildew on it.

Otherwise, even if you clean your bathroom surfaces the moldy shower curtain will "reinfect" the areas you cleaned, and you will just have to start all over again.
