Method Detergent Review - Peony Blossom Scent Is Heavenly

by Nicole
(Ocala, FL)

Nicole has provided this Method detergent review, of the Peony Blossom scent.

Nicole says:

I got this detergent at Target on clearance for $9 a bottle.

I bought all 3 bottles that they had, because I was recently converting from conventional cleaning products to natural cleaning products due to an aging septic system that was showing signs of wear.

I only use liquid laundry detergent for the convenience of having it pre-mixed, and this fit the bill perfectly.

This is a great product, I love it.

Not only is the pump so very convenient (4 pumps is all you need) but I love the way that it gives just a hint of smell - a delicate, flowery smell - to your clothes.

Up until I found the Method detergent I was using All Free and Clear, which was fine but rather plain.

I didn't really want unscented laundry detergent, but I didn't want to be bombarded with perfume every time I put my head down on my pillow, used a bath towel or put on my clothes.

Method products are wonderful, because they give just a hint of a NATURAL smell. It's not a cloying, lingering, slightly fake smell like most other scented products.

And because they are all plant based ingredients, I feel much better about allowing the laundry water to discharge onto the lawn (a necessary measure to keep the 30 year old septic going).

In fact, the grass is much greener there!

I use Method dish detergent, bathroom cleaner and shampoo and body wash but by far the most revolutionary product is the Method detergent.

It gets stains out (within reason... blood or red wine will still be a challenge if not pre-treated), whitens whites and smells wonderful.

Being able to pump it out instead of pour the sticky detergent into a cap is such a terrific side benefit. I love my Method detergent!

I would recommend it to anyone.

Taylor says:

Thanks Nicole for sharing your review of the Method laundry detergent.

Method Is Wonderful For My Son's Cloth Nappies

by Vicky
(Kent, UK)

I've been using this for about 7 years I think and it's the best I've found.

I use cloth nappies for my son and have found it gets them lovely and clean without ever having to do the 'strip washing' I keep hearing about with people getting detergent residue in their nappies.

It's expensive, yes, but if you look around you can find good deals.

It also doesn't clog up the machine like a lot of liquids do.

I have tried using other stuff and keep going back to Method because it actually works!

Method Detergent Seems To Irritate My Family's Skin

by Mandy

Lavender Cedar Scent

Lavender Cedar Scent

Mandy shared her experience with this brand of detergent in two different scents.

Mandy says:

I have a bottle of the Lavender and a bottle of Free and Clear. I love the smell of the lavender scent, but both of them seem to bother my family's Skin!

We switched to Tide and Seventh Generation and they seem to not bother us!

I found 2 bottles of Method in my laundry area so decided to use them again after months of not using them, and there are areas on my body that seem irritated! So back to Tide!

Taylor says:

Mandy, thanks for sharing your review.

I would love to hear from others who have used this eco-friendly detergent to tell me how you like it, good or bad, and also if you, like Mandy and her family, have suffered any laundry detergent allergies from it.

Normally, Mandy, I would just suggest that your family try the hypoallergenic version of Method, if you continued to want to use it, but it seems like you tried that to no avail in your case.

It sounds like you've found a brand that works for you, but if you continue to have allergy issues related to detergent, you can also check out my hypoallergenic laundry detergent page which gathers reviews of these detergents from other readers of scent and dye free detergents.

Method Peony Blossom Scent Laundry Detergent Review - Not Worth Your Time And Money

by Melissa
(Lancaster, Ohio)

Melissa has provided her Method detergent review, of the Peony Blossom scent.

Melissa says:

I purchased the 50 load Method Peony Blossom Scent Detergent at my local Lowe’s Hardware store for $16 dollars. It was a lot more than I normally spend for detergent. But since Tide has discontinued my favorite detergent, I was looking for a replacement.

Frankly, as I have said in another of my posts I am also on the lookout for laundry products for my son who is in the Marines. He has limited space to store products and I would like to lighten his load if I can. I have yet to find a detergent that truly does that, and actually cleans his clothes.

With these products as so many others on the market, the front of the package tells you that there are X amount of loads in the package; however, if you read the entire package they are talking about small loads. I don’t do small loads of laundry most of the time. In my opinion you are using far too much energy and resources if you do this.

I followed the directions and used the correct amount of pumps per load and I am the only person who does laundry at my home. I would put a hash mark on the side of the bottle with a permanent marker each time I did a load. I just counted and there is very little product in the bottle (not enough for a load) and it says I have used the product 27 times. I only use the 4-5 pumps that it recommends. So, 50 loads is quite a stretch if you are using it as directed.

The product smells pretty great when you pump it into the wash water. But, sadly that is the last time you will smell it. When the clothes are washed the fragrance is gone.

It isn’t very effective on stain removal or heavy soils.

There is absolutely no “sudsing” with this detergent either, and to the products credit I don’t think there is supposed to be.

Method detergent is touted as being good for the environment but all that goes out the window when you have to rewash with another detergent to actually clean your clothes. I have to say at the end of the day this product is a giant waste of money. It’s not an effective cleaning detergent and the price is highway robbery.

Save yourself the time and buy something cheaper with better performance. Method is not worth your time and money.

Taylor says:

Thanks Melissa for your review of Method detergent.

I sure hope you can find something that works well for your son, and is also compact in size. Please tell me if you find something that fits the bill sometime.

It is interesting that you don't like Method detergent, because before this I've only gotten rave reviews about it. I guess that is why they make so many types of laundry detergent, so everyone can find something that they like!

So, has anyone else used Method for their laundry? If so, you can share your Method laundry detergent review here, to weigh in on whether you like it or not, or read other reviews already submitted.

In addition, you can share other laundry detergent reviews here, of any brand, telling me what you like or dislike about the detergent.

***Update: Joan Hipps from Knoxville, TN wrote in a short comment to disagree with Melissa stating:
Yes Method does get stains out and I like the pump, and it does not harsh smell like others.

Love The Small Pump And Amount Used!

by Marie
(Illinois)

Marie says:

I love this product for laundry.

I live in a very small apartment and love the small bottle! I have a small apartment sized washer so I only use 2 pumps vs. 4 for a regular load.

I have tried two different scents, one is yellow, maybe called sunshine or something like it, and the other one is purple with lavender smell. I love the smell.

I plan on getting the fabric softener also just for the size convenience!

I recommended it. It cleans my clothes just fine.

My daughter works in a kitchen in a hospital and her clothes are always disgusting. I wash hers in warm water and my clothes in cold and it works either way.

Taylor says:

Thanks for sharing your experience Marie.

I looked up the scents you mentioned, and the yellow one is called Spring Daisy, and the purple one is Lavender Cedar.

If you do try the fabric softener I would like to hear how it works for you, since I don't have any reviews of it yet! You can share your experience here for any Method product, for laundry or cleaning, and I'll add it to the site.

Method Laundry Detergent Dispenser Pump: How Well Does It Work?

Taylor says:

There has been some debate amongst readers and reviewers on this site, when discussing the Method detergent dispenser pump, since this is a different design than many other liquid laundry soaps which you pour into a cap to measure.

Some people say you can get the number of loads from the dispenser that it says on the bottle, while others say you really get less (see above for Melissa's review for an example).

I've gotten some additional comments from readers discussing this issue, so I've compiled them all here to let you read what they have to say on the issue.

Renee says:

LOVE it! I have a front loading washer. I usually use 4 pumps, but if it is really dirty stuff, I might use 5.

I'm just one who wants to get my laundry done! I honestly am not as concerned about how much I am using.

Wendi says:

I have been using Method for about two months.

I have a large washer and use 6 pumps in the big loads.

It does not do very well with grass and dirt stains especially on white clothing. I had to resort to pretreating more than I did when I used Tide.

I love the smaller container and I am still using Method. I am a big fan of Method household cleaning products.

Bonnie says:

I have used it. I found that 3 pumps were enough to clean my clothes unless heavy soiled then I add more.

I am very picky about my clothes. I have never had any trouble with Method cleaning them to my standards.

Jenifer says:

I tried Method detergent but didn't like the pump. The directions say to use 3 pumps but the pump always got stuck so was never sure how much had come out so would use more. Didn't seem to get very many loads out of it but it cleaned well enough.

Taylor says:

Thanks to everyone who shared their opinion about this matter. I'd love to hear from even more people who've used this detergent to share your reviews of it.

You can share your laundry detergent review here for this or any other brand.

Caused hives
by: Lisa

I always buy free and gentle detergent as my family has allergies. I tried Method free and clear and my husband and daughter both developed hives. I tried it just on towels and they still had skin irritations. I always use Tide free and no problems.

love all the Method products
by: Andrea Webster

Actually, I would like to review a huge segment of Method products. The toilet bowl cleaner - mint - is fantastic as is the spray bathroom cleaner and the shower spray; however, I diverge. I use Method furniture cleaner and polish - fantastic. I use Method window cleaner - fantastic. I use Method laundry detergent - fantastic (not so fond of the fabric softener.) I use Method grapefruit hand washing dish detergent - very happy. I use Method dishwasher detergent - love it. I can go on and on about how in love I am with Method products. I am a severe asthmatic - Clorox and ammonia may have a place in home cleaning, but not in an asthmatic's home. Method products have a clean, gentle smell, work fantastic, but do not leave a lingering odor that bothers asthmatics. Need I say more?
