Kroger Home Sense Laundry Detergent Review: Free & Clear Scent

by Taylor

I recently noticed a new store brand at Kroger, called Home Sense. I bought a bottle of the laundry detergent in the free and clear scent, and have used most of the bottle now washing my family's clothes for the last couple of weeks.

Overall, I thought the detergent worked OK, but I was not overly impressed with it.

First, I should note it was a perfectly acceptable hypoallergenic detergent, with no allergic reactions from any family members and no noticeable scent left on any of the clothes.

Although it didn't bother allergies I didn't feel it worked as well as I would have liked for cleaning clothes.

For example, I noticed over time that many shirts had a bit of odor under the arms that shouldn't be there after a good wash. In fact, I hadn't experienced this particular problem for a while, using many other of the test detergents I've been using and reviewing for this site.

In addition, it didn't do well with treating stains, at least on its own. I had to be very careful to pretreat everything before it was into the washer to make sure all the spots and spills would come out.

Finally, I just knew I wouldn't bother buying this brand of detergent again when my youngest daughter got sick and threw up all over her sheets and clothes. I needed to do some emergency laundry, and instinctively felt that this needed a more "serious and powerful" detergent to get the job done, and once again grabbed my bottle of All free and clear.

I love buying lower cost detergents, since I am always looking for ways to save money. I'll continue using the rest of this detergent (I have probably about 5 loads left of the bottle now) on less dirty items, since I see no point in wasting it, but I know I won't be buying it again.

I also tried the Home Sense dryer sheets from Kroger at the same time, and similarly was not overly impressed with them either. (Click the link to read the full review.)

I would love to hear from others who have used any of the Home Sense laundry products or cleaning supplies, to hear if they liked them or not. You can share your reviews with me here.
