Cleaning Shower & Tub Tips: How To Clean Walls & Floor

Jocelyn has shared her cleaning shower and tub tips, including how she cleans both the walls of the shower and the floor of her shower/tub on a daily basis, and when she does a full cleaning.

Jocelyn says:

This is what I do to keep my shower clean (daily) and what I do when I fully clean my shower.

After each shower, I wipe it out with an old towel - takes less than 2 minutes then I leave my shower curtain open. This helps prevent the buildup of hard water stains and soap scum.

As it is only me who uses my shower, I can go about 2 months before my shower needs a good scrub.

When I am going to scrub down my shower, I actually do it before I'm about to get into the shower - I can never stay clean and dry cleaning my shower, so I might as well clean it while showering.

I put on exfoliating mitts (bought at the dollar store), rub liquid hand soap on them and just rub the wall of the shower in a circular motion. Once all surfaces of the shower have been scrubbed, I turn on the shower, and repeat the process now that water is running.

For the bottom of the tub, because mine is highly textured, I use a nail brush or a brush with very stiff bristles and powdered laundry soap. I will again do this before turning on the shower.

(BE CAREFUL AT THIS POINT AS THE SHOWER FLOOR WILL BE VERY SLIPPERY WHEN YOU GET IN IF YOU HAVE NOT RINSED THE FLOOR SUFFICIENTLY.)

Thanks so much Jocelyn for sharing tips for cleaning shower and tub walls and floor.

I'm with you -- I can't seem to clean a shower or bathtub without getting very wet, because of the rinsing, so cleaning it while you're in it is a good idea as long as the cleaning supplies you use don't have lots of fumes or irritate skin.

I love your idea of using the exfoliating mitts. You need something to rub the sides of the walls, and this seems like it would work quite well. I may get a pair for myself, and label them just for cleaning, so I don't get them confused with what I use for myself! ;)

Does anyone else have a good method for cleaning your shower? If so, I would love to hear it. You can share your tips for how to clean a shower here, or read other tips which have already been submitted.

The best way to keep your shower clean is to simply wipe it with a rag or towel after every shower, takes only a minute.

The bottom of my show seems to be hard plastic. Has not been used (have two) in some time. Orangeish discoloration. What do you suggest?
